Giant anisotropic band flattening in twisted <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi mathvariant="normal">Γ</mml:mi></mml:math> -valley semiconductor bilayers
We propose a general theory of anisotropic band flattening in moir\'e systems at the $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}$ valley. For a two-dimensional semiconductor with a rectangular unit cell of ${C}_{2z}$ or mirror symmetries, we find that a larger effective mass anisotropy $\ensuremath{\eta}={m}_{y}/{m}_{x}$ of the valence or conduction bands in the monolayer will have …
