Crystalline topological Dirac semimetal phase in rutile structure <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:msup><mml:mi>β</mml:mi><mml:mo>′</mml:mo></mml:msup><mml:mtext>−</mml:mtext><mml:msub><mml:mi>PtO</mml:mi><mml:mn>2</mml:mn></mml:msub></mml:mrow></mml:math>
Based on first-principles calculations and symmetry analysis, we propose that a transition-metal rutile oxide, in particular ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}\text{\ensuremath{-}}{\mathrm{PtO}}_{2}$, can host a three-dimensional topological Dirac semimetal phase. We find that ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}\text{\ensuremath{-}}{\mathrm{PtO}}_{2}$ possesses an inner nodal chain structure when spin-orbit coupling is neglected.
