Complex nature of magnetic field induced ferroelectricity in <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mi>GdCrTi</mml:mi><mml:msub><mml:mi mathvariant="normal">O</mml:mi><mml:mn>5</mml:mn></mml:msub></mml:mrow></mml:math>
This work shows an unconventional route for spin-driven ferroelectricity originating from a metastable magnetic field-induced canting of chromium sublattice in the presence of gadolinium moments in GdCrTiO5 at low temperatures.
