We explore the response of Ir $5d$ orbitals to pressure in $\ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{Li}}_{2}{\mathrm{IrO}}_{3}$, a hyperhoneycomb iridate in proximity to a Kitaev quantum spin-liquid (QSL) ground state.
