Static magnetic moments revealed by muon spin relaxation and thermodynamic measurements in the quantum spin ice<mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:msub><mml:mtext>Yb</mml:mtext><mml:mn>2</mml:mn></mml:msub><mml:msub><mml:mtext>Ti</mml:mtext><mml:mn>2</mml:mn></mml:msub><mml:msub><mml:mtext>O</mml:mtext><mml:mn>7</mml:mn></mml:msub></mml:math>
We present muon spin relaxation ($\ensuremath{\mu}$SR) and specific-heat versus temperature $C(T)$ measurements on polycrystalline and single-crystal samples of the pyrochlore magnet ${\text{Yb}}_{2}{\text{Ti}}_{2}{\text{O}}_{7}$. $C(T)$ exhibits a sharp peak at a ${T}_{C}$ of 0.21 and 0.26 K for the single-crystal and polycrystalline samples, respectively.
