We present angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy data from insulating ${A}_{2}{\mathrm{CuO}}_{2}{X}_{2}$ $(A=\mathrm{Sr},$ Ca; $X=\mathrm{Cl},$ Br), ${\mathrm{Sr}}_{2}{\mathrm{Cu}}_{3}{\mathrm{O}}_{4}{\mathrm{Cl}}_{2},$ and ${\mathrm{Bi}}_{2}{\mathrm{Sr}}_{2}M{\mathrm{Cu}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{8}$ $(M=\mathrm{Er},$ Dy) single crystals, which illustrate that the low-energy electronic structure of the half-filled cuprates are independent of the apical atom. By performing a photon energy dependent study on ${\mathrm{Ca}}_{2}{\mathrm{CuO}}_{2}{\mathrm{Cl}}_{2},$ we are able to …
