Xe irradiation of graphene on Ir(111): From trapping to blistering

Using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermal desorption spectroscopy, and scanning tunneling microscopy, we show that upon keV ${\mathrm{Xe}}^{+}$ irradiation of graphene on Ir(111), Xe atoms are trapped under the graphene.
