Abstract

The cover picture is a 3-dimensional rendering of the electrostatic potential of the satellite Mandelbrot set from Map 27.A purely mathematical construct, this landscape bridges the gap between real and artificial fractals.The "moon" is a Riemann sphere which carries the structure of a corresponding Julia set.As a symbol of Euclidean geometry, the sphere contrasts strongly with the fractal nature of the mountain ridge.
