CHILD DEVELOPMENT, 1974, 45, 803-806. 40 childrenages 4, 6, 8, and 10-were interviewed by standard and Piagetian clinical method on 2 sociomoral dilemmas. Each child's discussion of the perspectives of different characters in the dilemma was analyzed according to a previously defined sequence of role-taking levels. The high correlation of these levels with increasing age indicates that role taking as a concept is amenable to a structural-developmental analysis.

The data on which it draws come from two surveys conducted in north-west Italy, one of unemployed young people and one of high-school pupils. The author is in effect testing the two fundamental and opposed paradigms of explanation which are generally applied in the sociology of education; one which holds that the individual agents are essentially passive, being either constrained by lack of alternatives or pushed by causal factors of which they are unaware; and the other in which they are regarded as capable of purposive action, of weighing the available alternatives with respect to some future rewards.

The "Thought in … Mentalization research focuses on different aspects of this topic, highlighting individual differences in mentalizing and proposing programs of intervention for children and adults to increase this ability. The "Thought in Mind Project" (TiM Project) provides training targeted to adults―teachers or parents―to increase their mentalization and, consequently, to obtain mentalization improvement in children. The present research aimed to explore for the first time ever the potential of training for teachers based on the TiM Project, regarding the enhancement of mentalizing of an adult who would have interacted as a teacher with children. For this reason, two teachers – similar for meta-cognitive and meta-emotional skills - and their classes (N=46) were randomly assigned to the training or control condition. In the first case, the teacher participated in training on the implementation of promotion of mentalizing in everyday school teaching strategies; in the second case the teacher participated in a control activity, similar to training for scheduling and methods, but without promoting the implementation of mentalization (in both conditions two meetings lasting about three hours at the beginning of the school year and two supervisions during the school year were conducted). The children were tested by tasks assessing several aspects of mentalization (2nd and 3rd order false belief understanding, Strange Stories, Reading the mind in the Eyes, Mentalizing Task) both before and after the teacher participate in the TiM or control training (i.e. at the beginning and at the end of the school year). The results showed that, although some measured components of mentalization progressed over time, only the TiM training group significantly improved in 3rd order false belief understanding and changed - in a greater way compared to the control group - in two of the three components of the Mentalizing Task. These evidences are promising about the idea that the creation of a mentalizing community promotes the mentalization abilities of its members.

In this … The Playing Self is a groundbreaking new work from influential cultural sociologist and clinical psychologist Alberto Melucci, best known for his work on social movements and collective identities. In this book, he delves deeper into questions about the self as both a psychological and socio-cultural entity, particularly in the context of a global society for which information has become a basic resource. His phenomenological approach accounts for the self both as a site of highly subjective and intimate experiences, such as crying, laughing and loving, and in relation to social structural dynamics, through more impersonal experiences, such as the experience of time, and links of the self to politics. Melucci explores the critical search for meaning at the boundary of visible collective processes and individual day-to-day experience.

Clinical practice still reveals to us today the extent of the effects on an ego that is incapable of defending itself and of allowing the excitatory, incomprehensible and ruinous charge of an abusive adult to flow out of itself. In this sense, the theoretical clinical contribution of Ferenczi, still remains essential today in approaching the complexity of the pathological dynamics of the traumatic scenario. A scenario that is explored here within the psychoanalytic relationship, through the therapist’s listening and welcoming towards the narrative fabric of the patient’s body and mind manifestations, in order to trace the abuse and return it to the vital dynamics of communication and thus be able to translate it, restoring meaning to it.

Coetzee’s novels related to the category of trauma, one is confronted with stylistic peculiarities such as fragmentary passages, repetitions, elliptical constructions, and structural deviations, which are typical of traumatic memory at both the collective level – the experience of slavery and apartheid – and the individual level. This is particularly evident in In the Heart of the Country (1978), where the story is told by a woman and trauma is intertwined with specific aspects of her position in South African society. If, on one hand, preserving traumatic memories means avoiding a rationalizing tendency in the course of translation, on the other hand it means respecting the silences that pervade the pages and not filling them just to make the text more coherent. Such a translation project may mean coming into conflict with the publishing house, which tends to normalize the text in the belief that readers may not easily understand.

Dynamics of cohesion and collision in the context of autobiographical migration experiences in the third millennium: Transcultural Cinema and the pedagogy of discomfort at the service of learning Italian This paper focuses on autobiographical discourses and migration issues in contemporary Italian-language Transcultural Cinema with the aim of identifying the connections between cinema and literature, between autobiographical migratory experiences and the dynamics of cohesion and collision that can be used in the context of learning Italian, and therefore between postmodern social realities and pedagogy in general. Focusing on the leitmotif of War and Peace as a transversal and transformative axiom, through a comparative transmedia analysis of the documentary Guerra e pace (2020) by Massimo D’Anolfi and Martina Parenti, in relation to the film L’ordine delle cose (2017) by Andrea Segre, the intricate dynamics of migration are explored in the context of current Italian-language transcultural cinema (Reichardt/Plazzo 2023). The aim is to reevaluate not only the genre of Transcultural Cinema (MacDougall 1998), particularly useful in multi-ethnic classes, but also the transformative capacity of discomfort according to the Pedagogy of Discomfort, which – from Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed (1970) to the emotions and education of Feeling Power (Boler 1998) – promotes not only an awareness of migration issues, post-memory identity and transcultural coexistence in postmodern Italy. But the respective teaching methods also activate in the Italian LS, L2 and L3 courses the listening to the Other, the care of Nonviolent Communication (Rosenberg 1999) and, thus, the expansion of authentic voices that narrate lived experiences.

However, a less optimistic picture will be drawn by highlighting the shortcomings of early positions and by suggesting alternative concepts going beyond the confines of this approach. As regards alternative positions, references will be made to cosmopolitan, global citizenship-related, posthumanist and ecocritical perspectives. Moreover, the question will be raised whether transculturality as suggested in the 1990s still is a timely model for cultural learning in the current decade. In conceptual debates ideas often remain abstract and divorced from concrete realities. Therefore, the following reflections will be linked to Leo Lionni’s Little Blue and Little Yellow, a book for very young children, first published in 1959. The book vividly shows how a certain notion of transculturality works, and it can illustrate in simple terms a highly abstract concept.

This study aims to discuss and explain the reality of shackling of PMD in Sikka Regency as a practice of ‘culture of throwing away’ based on the principles outlined in the Encyclical Fratelli Tutti. This research uses a mixed method. The research result shows that people with mental disorders (PMD) are one of the groups that are vulnerable to becoming victims of the culture of throwing away. The manifestation of the culture of throwing away towards the PMD can be seen in the act of shackling. The Encyclical Fratelli Tutti emphatically emphasizes the inherent dignity of every individual and demands full respect for the dignity of all people, including the most vulnerable. According to the Encyclical Fratelli Tutti, the shackling of PMD constitutes an act of violence that tarnishes the sanctity of life and violates human rights. It also manifests egoism and individualism. The shackling of PMD also leads to the breakdown of the family’s proximity relationship. The solution to facing the globalization of indifference, according to Pope Francis, is repentance by living a culture of solidarity, like the example of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). Thus, the practice of shackling PMD in Sikka Regency reflects the ‘culture of throwing away’ criticized by the Encyclical Fratelli Tutti, which emphasizes the importance of respect for human dignity.

Since … Abstract Collaborative work between anthropology and psychology on literacy and particularly on illiteracy helps to rethink general disciplinary backgrounds, concepts, and complex empirical phenomena in the field of (il)literacy. Since the formational period of the social sciences, the concept of literacy has been key to the self‐understandings of anthropology and psychology. However, it was long neglected in empirical research. Nonetheless, implicit and explicit assumptions about the role, history, and distinctiveness of writing systems and their presence or absence in various societies were central to disciplinary understandings of societies, individuals, and humanity. To this day, literacy and especially its relational other—illiteracy—have not received the attention they deserve from either empirical or conceptual research. This article begins with their histories in anthropology and psychology and argues that illiteracy, in particular, has been neglected in their debates. It then offers a framework for literacizing and illiteracizing, conceptualizes both illiteracy and literacy as multiple and relational phenomena, and discusses methodologies and preliminary results from our collaborative research project on processes of literacizing and illiteracizing in urban literate environments in Benin and Bolivia. It concludes with a discussion of the potential of research on literacy and illiteracy as a model for transdisciplinary work, especially a more intensive collaboration between our disciplines.

In the Philippines, the Department of Education implemented modular distance learning to ensure continuity in instruction. This study explores the experiences of parents and guardians as they assumed a more active role in facilitating their children’s education at home. Specifically, it examines the strategies they employed, the challenges they encountered, and the coping mechanisms they utilized to support learning. Using thematic analysis, the study identified key instructional strategies, including memorization, translation, the use of examples, online resource utilization, and reliance on parents’ prior knowledge (schema). However, several challenges emerged, such as conflicts between parental work obligations and teaching responsibilities, limited subject knowledge, student behavioral issues, and the influence of social media. To address these difficulties, parents and guardians adopted various coping strategies, including reinforcement through rewards and punishments, structured rules and discipline, social support mechanisms, and time management techniques. Based on the findings, the study proposes a strategic support plan aimed at enhancing parental involvement in modular learning, particularly in subjects like Mathematics, where parental competency can significantly impact student performance. The study underscores the critical role of parent-teacher collaboration in improving the home-based learning experience and ensuring educational quality during times of crisis.

We have been published the first issue of Lavai – International journal of Education in 2003 (all articles in Mongolian), and it is still growing continuously. Because, it’s the first editorial note ever, we would highlight several milestones in history of Lavai – International journal of Education from our past. First, we received both pISSN 2410-4507 and eISSN 2959-9334 in 2015 and 2022 respectively. Secondly, we successfully hosted by the Mongolian Journal Online by December 2022. Simultaneously, we also recognized as international journal that indexed in Google Scholar, Dimensions and EBSCO with unique DOI numbers for each publishing article. Third, we publish only articles in English since 2024 (Vol. 20 No.31). Consequently, we hopefully believe that range of audience of our journal will increase. Fourth, we redesigned our publishing article format since Vol. 20, No. 30 (2024), which is more attractive than previous format. Lastly, we successfully indexed in Directory of Open Access Journals by March of 2025. Therefore, all published articles of this journal are included in the indexing and abstracting coverage of Google Scholar, Dimensions, EBSCO and DOAJ. In this issue of volume 21, we received a total of 12 manuscripts, and we accepted five articles for publication. In this issue, we are publishing articles of Nigerian, Chinese, Philippines and Mongolian education scientists. Some highlights from these articles are i) researchers found a significant relationship between graduate unemployment and gambling, prostitution, and youth restiveness, also ii) in Philippines remote area, teachers recognizing both Modular Distance Learning’s advantages, such as flexibility and learner autonomy, and disadvantages, including time-consuming preparation and limited resources.
